Catch the spirit

Elizabeth and Carolyn gave us an introduction to the infectious spirit of Girls on the Run during their nomination presentation. But after visiting the Girls on the Run Greater Boston office, I can only imagine what it like must be to be a young girl participating in the program. Four smiling faces greeted as we entered into the brightly teal green painted office. The mission that drives them front and center on the wall. An overall sense of energy and excitement filled the air.

Olivia, Haley, Kate and Lara were very excited to share the details of the program. The Greater Boston chapter serving young girls in grades 3-8 across Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth and Suffolk counties. Fueled by the volunteer coaches and staff. The 10 week programs goes beyond the basics of running. The coaches serve as mentors and cheerleaders for each girl teaching life skills that go beyond the track. In a recent study of participants they found that 85% improved in confidence, caring, character or connections to others.

At the end of the 10 weeks the participants, coaches and volunteers come together in a celebratory 5k. This year the 5k will be held on Saturday, December 1st. Stay tuned on details of how to participate as a 100 Women Who Care member! Already inspired by these amazing women? Registration for running is now open.

This year they are also kicking off the first ever Sneaker Soirée! November 8th you can lace up for your sneakers and put on your favorite party dress for this one of a kind party! More details about can be found on their site.

Be sure to join us on November 27th when Olivia and crew will be joining to share the impact our donation has made on Girls on the Run! She may even lead us in a cheer after!
